An unsightly red van parked on council-owned property in Church Road, Upper Norwood has been removed following a complaint from local amenity group the Norwood Society.
The van with garishly hand-painted signs saying ‘Man and Van £20′ was parked on grassland at the entrance to disused public conveniences opposite All Saints church.
Croydon Cllr Luke Clancy, who took up the complaint, has told Society chairman Eric Kings: “The driver had a notice on the dashboard telling traffic wardens not to ticket the vehicle as it was parked on private property.
“I couldn’t see any reason why it should not be removed as it was parked on council property without permission It’s the same as if the owner parked on my front lawn.
Cllr Clancy says there are several of these vans all over south London – including one parked in Croxted Road, West Dulwich.
“It’s cheap advertising for him parked in prominent positions on main roads” he added.
